Koo Schadler Bio

Koo Schadler is a Master painter of The Copley Society of Boston. She is a board member of the Society of Tempera Painters, writes and lectures on egg tempera, and teaches tempera, gesso and design in workshops around the country. Koo Schadler works in egg tempera paint and silverpoint drawing.

Koo Schadler's paintings and drawings can be found in over 400 private, corporate, and museum collections nationwide.

Revealing a deep appreciation for Italian and Northern early Renaissance art, Koo achieves jewel-like effects using the traditional medium of egg tempera and mimics historical formats, such as the manuscript page and the altarpiece. Her approach is intimate and idiosyncratic.

Egg tempera painting is one of the oldest, most versatile, and most durable methods in history dating back to prehistoric times, and it is generally unaffected by humidity and temperature changes. The term "tempera" comes from temper or tempering, which means to bring something to a desired, or usable, consistency.
