Ronald Ray Rogers Bio

Ronald Ray Rogers is an internationally recognized studio artist with a Master of Fine Arts in painting and drawing. His work is in important public and private collections, and his images and writings are published and presented throughout the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Western Europe, South Africa, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. He has exhibited from New York to California. And, his images have been used in sets for the movie industry, and in the music industry for a CD cover and a music video.

Throughout his life, Ron has made his living as an artist. In the early seventies, after finishing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture and Ceramics, he built a pottery studio in California. For nearly a decade he worked as a potter producing exceptional hand made pottery. In an attempt to satisfy his inner drive for greater creativity, he sold his pottery and in 1984, he opened a very successful print and graphic design studio with a close friend. In the early nineties, Ron began painting for enjoyment and personal expression apart from the pressures of the advertising/design world. He found that other people enjoyed his work as well, and received invitations to participate in both private and group shows. With the desire to paint with the greatest degree of professional accomplishment, he returned to school to achieve a Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing. For a number of years, Ron taught painting and drawing as an adjunct professor at Utah Valley University. He now works as a full time studio artist and lives with his wife and his three youngest children on the Central Coast of California. His home and studio are located in an inspiring area of the coastal highlands that is wooded in oak and laurel, and overlooks the Pacific Ocean.

Artist Statement

“Forces of Nature”
Just as life’s forces form and shape us, the forces of nature shape the world around us. Whether desert, ocean, field, or forest; whether wind or calm, rain or drought, hot or cold, they all affect what lives and how it develops and grows. I have spent most of my life in the observation of nature, how it surrenders during the extremes of its force, and how, as the tempest subsides, it immediately returns to a state of peace. This is an aspect of nature I continually attempt in my personal life. It is this state of peace that exists through the forces of nature that I work to communicate in my art.

Most of the images that I use for my work are taken from the areas in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the coast of California, the Rocky Mountains, and from various excursions I make around the country. They form the natural environment and sometimes man’s contribution in relation to it through farms, structures and development. My passionate use of color and shape are used to communicate how, through all of the different forces of nature, there is a state of peace to be enjoyed.
