In 2009 and 2010 Mills also studied classical drawing and painting from the ateliers: Grand Central Academy and Bay Area ClassicalArt Atelier. Lauren Mills was trained in traditional methods passed down by the masters of the Euro-pean Renaissance. Her work is greatly influenced by the 19th century sculptors and the Pre-Raphaelites for their focus of the natural world as well as their sense of mythical wonder.
Lauren Mills has taught at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts and at Paier College of Art, both in Connecti-cut, and at the Hartsbrook School and privately in Massachusetts. She co- founded and curated the Beardsley Gallery and Art Guild in Wilton Connecticut in 2009 -2010.
Lauren Mills’ sculpture has been reviewed in American Artist Magazine and American Art Collector. For her book illustrations, The New York Times described her watercolors as “alluring....Whistlerian to the point of PreRaphaelitism.” Smithsonian awarded The Rag Coat with the Season’s Choice Award and described Mills’ watercolors as “bewitching” . The Washington Post wrote about The Rag Coat, “Mills’ story is exquisite and complex, while her pictures are palely watercolor radiant."
