Katharine Krieg Bio

Katharine Krieg (born, 1970) is an American Realist artist who, after earning a degree in art education, lived in Germany for several years where she traveled through Europe with her sketchbook and materials.  Her studio is now  located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania where she gathers subjects among the many farms, historic buildings and fields found nearby. She has also recently begun to explore and paint the rugged coast of Maine including the artist colony on Monhegan Island.

When she finds a subject that captures her interest her usual method of working consists of a planning stage with a preliminary sketch.  She will occasionally also use her own reference photos which she will change to suit the final composition.  She prefers to sketch directly from life as it enables her to gain a more intimate knowledge of the subject.  Katharine then takes the “plans” back to her studio to complete the final painting.  She finds the medium of watercolor holds the most successful avenue for achieving the effect she works toward.

She has been accepted into national juried shows from Pennsylvania to Texas.  Her work can be found in private collections along the east coast from Virginia to Maine.

Artist Statement:
I feel fortunate to have an ability that leads me to see the world in a way which results in a deep sense of appreciation and of joy.  My paintings are my answers to what I see around me.  Pausing for a moment of quiet Introspection and a passing of Time are themes that recur in my work.   I look to share this with the viewer and hope that people will connect with that which inspires me and keeps me coming back to paint.
